White Lotus: Belinda's Economic Working Woman Dress
In this season of White Lotus, we see a returning character from season one: Belinda. Belinda works at the wellness spa at White Lotus Maui. She is coming to stay in Thailand this season to learn more about the wellness center and bring back what she learned to improve the wellness spa in White Lotus Maui.
Belinda is a character who is different from all the characters from this season of White Lotus. Belinda is of the working class; she is here on a learning trip for work, not on vacation. As a working professional, Belinda wears relatable fashion clothing for those in the bottom 99 percent can afford. Belinda’s clothes show viewers that working-class people can purchase them when traveling to a tropical climate aboard. Belinda’s clothes also represent how she wants to present herself when arriving at the White Lotus Thailand.
When we first introduce Belinda this season, she is on the boat wearing a flowy maxi dress with a tropical theme from Anthropologie. Anthropologie is a popular fast-fashion and nonluxury clothing brand located across America.
With her budget, Belinda wants to wear what would be appropriate for the weather climate she is in. She wanted her dress to represent where she would stay for three months. Belinda does a good job at this, too. She wears a dress any woman on a budget would wear when traveling to a tropical climate like Thailand. Belinda wore a flowy, tropical color, flower print, and maxi dress. Belinda’s Anthropologie flowy dress has many tropical flower prints on the dress. Flowers one may find when a traveler visits a tropical climate.
The maxi dress from Anthropologie Belinda wears shows viewers where she belongs. The dress gives her the economic status of belonging in the bottom ninety percent. Belinda does her best to make a good first impression in a new place on a tight budget.
During the first episode, viewers get to watch Belind, who is working class, and the other affluent guests perspectives when arriving at White Lotus. Viewers first see Belinda this season when she is not sitting near the other guests on the boat arriving at White Lotus Thailand. The guests here for a fun five-star luxury vacation and wearing top fashion designers are at the front of the boat. Belinda is at another part of the boat when arriving in Thailand. Belinda’s lower-priced dress would be out of place sitting around people who wear high-quality clothing.
If Belinda had sat near them on the boat, the other guests would have wondered who this woman was and why she was there because the dress she was wearing did not come from the luxury clothing store. To avoid feeling out, confused, or judged by the other guests, she makes her way to another part of the boat.
The other guests on the boat wanted to wear beachy luxury clothing. When the wealthier guests get off the boat, they will be introduced to the hotel owner and staff and will be at the front of the beach and hotel. The other guests wanted to describe their status by wearing luxury clothing. The clothes they wear say they are rich and can afford to stay at a five-star hotel and give me the five-star treatment.
Belinda is not here on vacation, is not in the top one percent, and is wearing lower-quality fashion. It does not get a grand welcome like the other guests paying top dollar for a one-week vacation. She is greeted by one person who is a lesser-known staff at White Lotus at another, away from the front of the hotel.
Belinda’s dress says, "Yes, I am not rich and should not be greeted by the owner or top staff of the hotel. But I still need to impress the workers here, who are taking the time to teach me the Thai wellness culture for the next three months.”
Belinda’s dress in the first episode gives viewers who cannot afford to stay at a five-star hotel or wear luxury clothing something they could wear if they ever visit a foreign country in a tropical climate. Belinda wears a dress that is dressy casual for the everyday woman when arriving at a new place. The Anthropologie dress is a great pick by the stylist for Belinda for her character’s introduction dress this season.
